FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.

The Fayetteville SwampDogs have announced the signings El Camino College (Torrance, Calif.) sophomore utility player Trevor Casanova (Corona, Calif.) and Bloomsburg University redshirt junior outfielder Austin Edgette (Exton, Pa.) for the 2017 season.

As a freshman at Lane CC, Casanova batted .277 and tallied 43 hits, 33 RBIs, nine doubles, two home runs and one triple. In the 2017 campaign for El Camino CC, Casanova has seen action in 45 contests hitting for a .392 average with eight home runs and 40 RBIs. He also scored 61 runs and stolen seven bases. Casanova will attend Cal State Northridge and play for the Matadors in 2018.

In 2016, Edgette started in 44 of 45 games hitting for a team-leading .444 average, .505 on-base percentage and 13 stolen bases. He finished second on the Huskies in runs scored (50), doubles (14) and fourth in RBIs (42). Edgette also topped the BU charts with 21 multi-hit games and tied for third with 12 multi-RBI contests, earning D2CCA and NWCBA All-Atlantic Region second team honors, along with All-PSAC first team accolades.

During his redshirt freshman campaign, Edgette started in 35 of 36 games and placed fourth on the Huskies with a .336 batting average. He finished second on the team in runs scored (28), stolen bases (7), and third in total hits (38). Edgette tallied a .432 on-base percentage and .416 slugging percentage.

This is Edgette’s second consecutive season in collegiate summer baseball as he was a member of the Lehigh Valley Catz in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League. Last summer, Edgette played in 34 games posting a .307 average with 35 hits, five doubles and two triples. He drove in 16 runs and stole nine bases as well.

“Trevor and Austin will both be impact players for us this summer” said SwampDogs head coach Matt Hollod.  “They will both be tough outs at the plate and threats on the bases, which fits in nicely with our offensive philosophy.”

Be sure to stay tuned during the remainder of the off-season as we continue to periodically announce our new members of the 2017 Fayetteville SwampDogs!
