PETERSBURG, VA

The Generals dropped game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader by a score of 9-3. Generals starter Blake Turner (1-3) got the loss. Pilots righty Colin Nowak (2-0) got the win, after pitching 4 strong frames of a 7 inning game.

The Pilots took an early 3-0 lead thanks in part to Will Shepherd who drove in the game’s first run. The Generals cut their deficit to one, before the Pilots extended their lead to 5-3.
Pilots shortstop Cole Austin hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth to give Peninsula a 3 run lead.

The top of the seventh spelled disaster for the Generals as they made 2 errors, and Peninsula broke the game open by scoring 4 runs to take a 9-3 lead.

The Generals went down in order in the bottom of the seventh as Chase Randolph came on for the Pilots to shut the door by striking out all 3 Generals hitters he faced.

Game 2

The Pilots swept the doubleheader as they took game 2 by a score of 6-0. Pilots starter Brett Smith (2-1) picked up the win, while Generals right-hander Baylor Sundal (2-1) picked up the tough loss.

Peninsula put up a run each in both the first and second innings before Sundal pitched 3 straight scoreless innings. Pilots outfielder Logan Augustine hit a 2 run homerun in the top of the sixth to extend the Pilots lead to 4-0. The Pilots would also add two more runs in the seventh to extend their lead to 6-0.

The Generals had late life as Caleb Hicks’ walk was followed by an opposite field single by shortstop Chris Hicks. However, the Generals were unable to rally further after Pilots reliever Robbie Hiser was able to bare down and record the final 3 outs without allowing a run.

The Generals will be back in action tomorrow on the road against High Point-Thomasville. After an off day Monday, they will return home to face the Morehead City Marlins on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. Gates open at 6:00.
