PETERSBURG, VA

The Petersburg Generals (1-4) fell to the Peninsula Pilots (4-1) by the final score of 3-11 tonight.

The Pilots got on the board first scoring an unearned run in the top of the third inning, but the Generals responded in the bottom of the inning off of a two RBI double from Daniel Barnett.
Great pitching from right-hander Nick Spadafino (0-1) kept the Generals lead until the top of the sixth, it was then that the Generals began to struggle in the field. JT Whitner came in to relieve Spadafino, who left two runners get on base. Whritner struck out both batters he faced, but in a strategic coaching move Whitner, the lefty, was pulled from the game in favor of Brandon Hicks, a right-handed pitcher to face the Pilot’s left-handed batter.

Fielding errors by the infield allowed the Pilots to score four runs in the sixth before the third out giving them the lead for good. The Pilots would continue to hit well throughout the rest of the night tallying thirteen hits before it was done. The Generals defense however, made seven errors to add insult to injury. Pilots pitcher Caleb Evans got the win and Generals Pitcher Nick Spadafino received his first loss of the year in his 2nd appearance

The Generals will look to redeem themselves tomorrow when they travel to Wilmington to play the Sharks and will be home Wednesday to face the Fayetteville Swampdogs. Wednesday will Southside Regional Medical Center night and gates will open at 6:00pm and the first pitch will be at 7:05pm.
