PETERSBURG, VA

The Petersburg Generals (1-3) picked up their first win of the season tonight at the Petersburg Sports Complex on Johnny Rowe, Sr. Little League Appreciation Night sponsored by Strosnider Chevrolet. They defeated the defending CPL champions, the Edenton Steamers (1-2), 3-1.

The starting pitcher for the night was Blake Turner (1-0), who pitched 5 strong innings, surrendering only 1 unearned run, in route to picking up the win. Baylor Sundal picked up the save on his first day in a Generals’ uniform.

The Generals offensively were led by Calvin Scott, who broke the ice with an RBI single in the bottom of the first. A wild pitch by Messier in the bottom of the third allowed another run to score. The final run came off a Daniel Barnett single, his first hit of the season. Catcher Brandon Purcell also picked up two base hits and ended the game on a snap throw to third base.

Edenton’s starting pitcher Michael Messier took the loss.

Tonight also marked the first win for first year Head Coach Dylan Wolchik. When asked about the win he stated, “I didn’t do anything!” Deferring to his players that gave him the win.

The Generals will be back in action tomorrow at 7:05 on the road at historic Hicks Field in Edenton, against the Steamers. They will return home on Monday June 6th against the Peninsula Pilots. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
