Wildcats Claw into Hicks Field

The Steamers are excited to announce the signing of two right-handed arms from Bethune-Cookman University. The Teal and Black have inked Tyler Krull and Alexis Herrera (a-RAIR-uh) from the Wildcats out of Florida in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in the NCAA Division I.

Tyler Krull is a rare finesse right-hander that enjoys consistent success in Division I college baseball and who is superbly reprising his role as a swingman again this spring. The 5’10” 175-pound sophomore has a fastball that sits in the mid-80s; and he throws an excellent change-up and quality breaking ball, commanding all three well.

Despite being around the zone and not overwhelming hitters, the West Palm Beach, FL native has a great knack for limiting the impact of his opponents by keeping his walks down and being stingy with the extra-base hit. To this point in the spring, Krull has made five starts in 14 outings total, posting a 1.22 WHIP, .257 batting average against and 3.29 ERA for a 4-1 win/loss record. His opponent slugging is a lowly .311 after 41.0 innings.

Alexis Herrera is another versatile arm for the Wildcats, who in 2017 has blossomed into a key piece on the staff. The Miami, FL native has worked both from the bullpen and the rotation. The 6’0” 225-pound junior has battled inconsistency throughout the spring, but offers a nice arsenal when he is on.

The fastball is between 84-87 miles per hour with some movement; Herrera also features a tight breaking ball and a useable change. Through 19 appearances and four starts, he has posted two wins and a save in 31.1 frames.  Batters are hitting .267 against Herrera while he has fanned 23.
