Tyler Webb Homers in 5-4 Loss to Lexington County

FLORENCE, S.C.-

Tyler Webb crushed his first home run of the season and the RedWolves presented the tying and go-ahead runs throughout the ball game, but came up short in their 5-4 loss to the Lexington County Blowfish Tuesday night at Sparrow Stadium.

With two outs and a runner on first, the Florence RedWolves (13-8) presented the tying run in the bottom of the ninth. Matt Beaird led off the inning with a pinch-hit double to right-center field. After a fly out, Beaird advanced to third after tagging up. Leadoff batter Tanner Mann-Fix, lifted a fly ball to left field that was deep enough to score Beaird Making it 5-4. Tyler Webb reached first base on a dropped third strike and a throwing error by catcher Randal Ortiz. Zach Jacobs stood in the box and sent a fly ball to left. Left fielder Dominic Cuoci made an excellent sliding grab along the line to end the game.

Lexington County (9-16) god on the board in the top of the third inning taking a 2-0 lead off of a Nick Guimbarda 2-RBI double to right field.

In the bottom of the third, Webb took advantage of having two runners on and cranked his first home run of the season well over the left field wall to give the RedWolves a 3-2 lead. With one out Storme Cooper singled to left and Mann-Fix doubled to set up Webb’s long ball.

The Blowfish regained the lead an inning later as Seth Lancaster homered to right-center to put Lexington County on top 4-3.

A fifth run crossed the plate in the top of the sixth for the Blowfish on a Riley Hogan sacrifice fly to center field. Cuoci doubled to lead off the frame.

Florence had many opportunities for runs in the game leaving eight runners stranded on base. Kevin Woodall led off with a triple in the sixth, but was left stranded. Again in the eighth inning the RedWolves put runners in scoring positon. With bases loaded and one out Clay Casey stepped in for a nicely set up RBI opportunity, but grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The RedWolves have dropped their seventh straight contest and now find themselves sitting in third place in the Western Division of the Coastal Plain League behind the Forest City Owls (16-6) and the Gastonia Grizzlies (15-9).
