Trio of Flames adds spark to the Tobs

Updated May 18 2017

The Tobs added more heat to the summer as a trio of Flames will be coming to North Carolina to play for the Tobs. Liberty will be sending two freshman, pitcher Casey Williams and catcher Hunter Gore along with sophomore pitcher Jon Letchworth.

“I can see this trio producing great numbers for the organization this season,” general manager Mike Bell said. “Ready to see them on the field.”

Williams and Gore redshirted their freshman season but produced outstanding numbers coming into college.

Williams, 6-foot-5 right-hander from Suffolk, VA, finished his senior season of high school with a 1.37 era and tallied eight wins. Williams held opposing batters to a .198 batting average. In Williams’ final season, he was selected as first team all-conference as well as all-state.

Gore, native of Purcellville, VA, was ranked as the No. 1 catcher in Virginia leaving high school. In Gore’s final season of high school ball, he batted .397 with four home runs and 29 RBI’s. Gore was also selected on the all-conference team.

“Despite being redshirted their first year, Casey and Hunter will be able to produce big numbers for the team this season,” head coach Aaron Lynch said.

Letchworth, 6-foot-5 right-hander from Gloucester, VA, saw seven appearances on the mound for the Flames this past season. Letchworth threw 7.1 innings and recorded four strikeouts.
