Game 1: Petersburg wins 4-2 over Martinsville

To inch closer to .500 the Generals (3-4) took the first game of the double header that was postponed due to inclement weather on last Wednesday. With back-to-back losses to Petersburg, Martinsville (4-5) fell one game under .500.

Andre Moore put the first score on the board for the Generals in the bottom of the first as he advanced from third on a wild pitch. It took the Mustangs three innings to answer as they put two on the board in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead 2-1 with timely hits by Martinsville players Dattilo and Hagan. A double by Taylor Hackett scored Carlos Lopez as the Generals tied up the ballgame in the bottom of the fourth.
A two RBI double by Will Gurganus in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Generals the lead 4-2 and the win as Martinsville could not score in the top of the seventh.

Bryan Blanton (1-0) of Chowan gets the win in his first appearance while Matt Jaskolka (0-1) gets the loss.

Game 2: Martinsville takes down the Generals 11-2

Martinsville (5-5) reached the .500 mark with a devastating win over Petersburg (3-5).

The game started with no runs coming in the first inning, but the offensive onslaught started in the second inning as the Mustangs Pryor scored taking the lead 1-0. Petersburg did not have answer however, Martinsville added an additional run in the top of the third as Morrison scored. G.K. Young of the Generals had an answer in the bottom of the third inning as he hit a 2-run blast over the leftfield wall to tie the game at 2-2. The Mustangs doubled the scoring output per inning to two in the fourth and fifth innings to expand their lead 6-2. Poland homered for the Mustangs in the fourth inning. The sixth inning saw the largest offensive output for Martinsville as they scored four runs, with one run added in the seventh, the Mustangs scored nine unanswered runs to close out the game and win 11-2.

Kirkpatrick (1-1) gets the win and Schiller (0-1) gets the loss.

The Generals will go on the road Monday and Tuesday as they take on the Salamanders of Holly Springs and the Swampdogs of Fayetteville. Tune in to CPL webpass to listen to the game live.
