The Fayetteville SwampDogs (21-12) snapped the Wilmington Sharks (17-17) 4-game winning streak in a blowout 9-0 victory over their East Division rivals.

Matt Acosta (Cal State Northridge) shined on the mound tonight for the SwampDogs to earn his second straight victory over the Sharks going 5 1/3 innings and giving up 0 runs on just 5 hits and no walks. The offense, which had stalled in the previous two games, came to life on Friday night unloading on Wilmington’s pitching staff.

For the third straight game, the SwampDogs plated a first inning run as Matt Morrow’s (Wright State) sacrifice fly scored Austin Edgette (Bloomsburg) to put Fayetteville ahead after 1. In the second, Mike Spooner (Stetson) blasted a homerun over the scoreboard in right field, his second dinger of the year, putting the Dogs ahead 2-0 after two.

The SwampDogs continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the 5th as Edgette scored for the second time in the game on a wild pitch from Sharks starter Luke Gesell (UNC-Wilmington) giving Fayetteville a 3-0 lead heading into the 6th inning.

Jose Rojas (Miami Dade College) singled in two more runs on a chopper to right field with the bases loaded in the 6th putting the SwampDogs ahead of the Sharks 6-0.
The SwampDogs would feast further in the 8th plating three more including a Mike Spooner single into right field which plated Edgette and Morrow to put Fayetteville ahead 9-0.
Acosta took the win (2-0) while Gesell fell to (1-3) as the SwampDogs improved their record 12-4 at The Swamp this season.
