Steamers Swept on the Road at Morehead City

The Edenton Steamers (23-18, 6-7) were swept on the road by the Morehead City Marlins (18-21, 5-6) at Big Rock Stadium.

Game 1

The Clams and the Marlins finished a suspended game that began in the fifth inning with a 3-2 lead for Morehead City. Edenton was the home team for game number one because the game was started at Historic Hicks Field. The Steamers took the lead in the fifth when Jamie Galazin hit a three-run home run. Anthony Maselli added to the lead with a two-RBI double to bring the lead to 7-3.

Morehead City responded in a big way in the top half of the sixth. After a Nick Podkul single, Jackson Ware hit a two-run homer to cut into the lead. The Steamers had three errors in the inning to go along with two more run-scoring plays by the Marlins. Will Matthiessen had an RBI single to make it a one run game. Sammy Miller brought home two more runs on the third error of the inning by Edenton to take the lead 8-7.

The Clams had a response in the bottom half of the inning when Billy Wilson hit a two-run homer to give the lead back to Edenton at 9-8.

Morehead City opened it up in the top half of the eight with seven runs on six hits in the frame to make it 15-9. This included a two-RBI double by Mike Warren and a three-run shot by Daulton Weeks.

Morehead City would bring in Anthony Holubecki to close things down in the eighth and ninth. Holubeck (1-1) picked up the win for Morehead City and Josh Steele (1-1) got the loss for Edenton.

Game 2

The Clams fell in game two by a final score of 3-0 in seven innings getting shut out for the second time this season. Edenton had Kelvan Pilot on the mound and the Marlins put Zach Usselman on the rubber.

Pilot gave up a two runs in the third inning on a groundout and a single to give the Marlins the early lead. The Marlins added to their lead in the fifth when Daulton Weeks homered off of Pilot to make it 3-0.

The story in the game was Zach Usselman. Usselman went seven innings giving up just three hits while striking out 11 and walking two. Kelvan Pilot (3-2) got the loss for Edenton and Usselman (1-1) picked up the win for Morehead City.

The Teal and Black will be back in action tomorrow at Historic Hicks Field against the Peninsula Pilots. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
