Steamers Snap Losing Streak at Fayetteville

EDENTON, N.C.

Fayetteville, NC- The Edenton Steamers (21-15, 4-4) picked up their first win since July 7. The Clams defeated the Fayetteville SwampDogs (23-15, 5-4) by a final score of 13-5.

This was the second game against the SwampDogs that the Steamers posted double digit runs.

Edenton opened up the scoring early when Billy Wilson came home to score in the first inning on a triple and an error.

Fayetteville answered back in the bottom half of the second with an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1. It did not take long for the Clams to respond once again.

Anthony Maselli hit a two-run blast to right field to give the lead back to Edenton at 3-1. The Steamers continued to add on to their lead in the fourth.

James Battley singled home a run and Billy Wilson had an RBI on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. Dom Cuevas added to the lead in the top half of the fifth when he doubled down the left-field line to make it 7-1. Cuevas now has seven RBIs in the last three games for the Steamers.

After Cody Maw was pulled from the game after not recording an out in the fifth, Josh Steele gave up three runs on three wild pitches to allow the SwampDogs to claw back into the game to make it 7-4.

The Steamers responded with an RBI groundout in the sixth by Maselli to make it 8-4. Maselli finished the night with 3 RBIs for Edenton.

The Teal and Black added five insurance runs from the seventh the the ninth inning. The Clams were walks four times in the ninth to push across three runs.

Josh Steele (1-0) picked up the win for Edenton while Evan Flohr (0-1) got the loss for Fayetteville.

The two sides will meet tomorrow night at Historic Hicks Field. The SwampDogs took the last meeting 17-12 in a slugfest that included eight home runs in the contest. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
