FLORENCE, S.C.- With just eight regular season games remaining in the 2017 campaign, the Florence RedWolves squared off with the Lexington County Blowfish for the last time at Sparrow Stadium Monday night. Isaac Rodgers carried the RedWolves to victory behind a complete game, three-hit shutout performance backed by two runs of offensive support to spin a 2-0 victory.
Isaac Rodgers (1-1) dominated the Lexington County Blowfish (19-27, 10-9) hitters all night with a zippy fastball, good changeup and slipper slider. The right-hander from Francis Marion University struck out nine hitters through nine innings of work and relented just three hits on the way to his first win of the summer.
The Florence RedWolves (23-24, 9-11) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning chasing Blowfish Dom Couci (0-1) out of his first start. Logan McRae singled to left and Trey Chapman walked to open the inning. After a fielder’s choice eliminated McRae off the base paths, Cornell Nixon laced a liner to the right-center gap driving in Chapman to take a 1-0 lead.
Zach Jacobs provided the second run of insurance to take the 2-0 lead for Florence in the fifth inning, driving in Riley King who doubled to lead off the charge.
With Florence’s win, they still sit in fifth place, 3.5 games back of the Gastonia Grizzlies in the West Division standings with seven games to play.
The RedWolves will host the Wilmington Sharks Tuesday, August 1st for Knights in Columbus Night. Local chapters are invited to enjoy the game as your Knights will be presenting the colors during the National Anthem. Visit www.florenceredwolves.com for more information and tickets.
