WILSON, N.C.

The Pilots (10-3) used a six-run outburst in the fourth inning to break the game open and cruise to a 10-3 victory over Tuesday night at Fleming Stadium.

After losing its first game against the Tobs this season, the Pilots bounced back with a productive lineup and solid pitching. Drew Delsignore (Mercyhurst) continued his torrid streak with a home run in his third consecutive game. Sam Griggs (Southern Indiana) went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs. Scott Dubrule (Jacksonville) posted his second consecutive multi-hit game and Jonathan Embry (Liberty) drove in three runs.

Wilson (4-9) scored first as Dawnoven Smith (NC A&T) scored on a passed ball in the second inning.

Peninsula responded in the top of the third inning to tie the game at one apiece. Griggs led off the inning with a double down the right-field line. After moving to third on a sacrifice bunt, Griggs scored on a sacrifice fly by Embry.

The Tobs wasted no time in retaking the lead in the bottom half of the frame. Roberto Rivera (UNC Pembroke) led off the frame with a double and came around to score on a ground out by Tanner Johnson (Denison) to put the Tobs ahead 2-1.

A six-run fourth inning allowed the Pilots to retake the lead and the team was on cruise control for the remainder of the game. Logan Augustine (Lincoln Memorial) started the inning with a walk and moved to second on a single by Matt Schneider (Mercyhurst). After a successful double steal, both Augustine and Schneider scored on Dubrule’s two-run single through the right side. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases for Drake McNamara (Southern Indiana), who was plunked to score a run. Another came across on a wild pitch before Chris Lehane’s (Jacksonville) single brought in two more runs for a 7-2 lead.

Delsingore delivered a solo blast, his fifth of the season, to put the Pilots ahead 8-2.

In the seventh, Peninsula tacked on two more runs on Embry’s two-run single. Griggs led off the inning with his third hit of the game and stole second. After a walk to Jack Morris (Liberty), the runners moved into scoring position and came around on Embry’s single to right field.

Carson McCurdy (Mount Olive) hit a solo home run in the ninth for the Tobs.

Colt Harlow (James Madison) made his second start of the season for the Pilots. The southpaw gave up two runs (one earned) in 3 1/3 innings and struck out seven. Nolan Flachofsky (Lenoir-Rhyne) got the remaining two outs before giving way to Jackson Wark (St. Louis) and Chase Randolph (Lincoln Memorial) who both delivered two scoreless innings. Wark struck out five batters while Randolph did not allow a hit in his second appearance of the season. Matt Mullenbach (Lincoln Memorial) gave up a run in the ninth inning but preserved the win.

Marcello Betances (NC A&T) took the loss after giving up six runs in 3 2/3 innings.

After a day off Wednesday, the Pilots will host the Holly Springs Salamanders for College Night and Thirsty Thursday!
