WILSON, N.C.

Drew Delsignore homered and drove in three runs to help lead the Peninsula Pilots to an 8-4 victory over the Wilson Tobs on Sunday night at Fleming Stadium.

The Pilots (9-2) immediately jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jack Owens (virginia Tech) doubled down the left-field line to lead off the game. After a groundout advanced Owens to third, Drake McNamara (Southern Indiana) hit a two-out double to right-center to score Owens for the first run of the ballgame.

Wilson (3-8) responded with a run in the third inning. After two quick outs, two walks sandwiched a single by Roberto Rivera (UNC-Pembroke). An infield single by Tanner Johnson (Denison) allowed the first run to score before Braun Miller (Malone) got a ground out to strand the bases loaded.

Peninsula immediately responded with a four-run inning in the fourth. Back-to-back walks by Jonathan Embry (Liberty) and McNamara kicked off the inning. After a hit by pitch by Matt Schneider (Mercyhurst) loaded the bases, a RBI ground out by Logan Augustine (Lincoln Memorial) put the Pilots back on top. Delsignore followed with a three-run blast to put the Pilots ahead 5-1.

Wilson responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Trevor Kelly (George Mason) hit a leadoff double and was followed by a hit by pitch by Dawnoven Smith (NC A&T). AJ Hunt (NC A&T) followed with a two-run triple to cut the deficit to two.

The teams traded zeroes until the bottom of the eighth inning when back-to-back doubles by Wilson cut the lead to one.

Peninsula secured insurance runs in the ninth inning. A leadoff walk by Schneider and an error set up Augustine’s run-scoring single. Sam Griggs (Southern Indiana) hit a RBI triple later a few batters later to score Augustine. Griggs later scored on a balk to put the Pilots ahead 8-4.

Tad Ratliff (Lenoir-Rhyne) pitched a scoreless ninth to give the Pilots their ninth win of the early season.

Collin Liberatore (Pittsburgh) picked up the win after giving up a run in three innings of work. Nathan Eaton (VMI) and Chase Randolph (Lincoln Memorial) combined to retire all five batters they faced. Miller, who earned the start, gave up three runs in 3 1/3 innings and struck out five.

Cody Smith (Chowan) took the loss for the Tobs to fall to 0-2 on the season
