LEXINGTON, S.C.

Forest City dropped their fifth game of their last six on Saturday night against the Lexington County Blowfish (16-25, 7-7).

The Owls (24-15, 5-7) were virtually never in the game, as they fell behind 7-0 after two innings and didn’t score any runs until the final frame.

On the mound, Forest City looked to right-hander Tyler McAlister (Missouri State). McAlister ran into trouble early, and only lasted three innings on the hill.

In the 1st, the Blowfish put up four runs, all with two outs. Following back-to-back walks, Riley Hogan (South Carolina) knocked in the games first run on an RBI single to left.

Moments later, Dom Cuoci (Saint Joseph’s) hit a three run homerun over the left field wall to make it 4-0.

In the 2nd, Lexington County added to their lead, putting up three more runs in the inning.

Two of the three runs scored on a two-RBI triple by Austin Wilhite (Georgia Tech). The next batter, Drew Ellis (Mount Olive), singled in Wilhite to score, giving the Blowfish a 7-0 lead.

Lexington starting pitcher Connor Thomas (Georgia Tech) was tremendous on the mound for the Blowfish. He tossed five scoreless frames, allowing three hits, while fanning three batters.

On the night, Lexington County struck out 14 Owls batters, including eight strikeouts from the bottom three in the batting order.

The frustrating offensive night continued for Forest City until the 9th inning, when the Owls finally broke up the shutout.

In the 9th, Alex Conaway (Lander) got things started with a one-out triple to deep left-center. Conaway went 3-4 on the night with a run scored.

Conaway came into score on a wild pitch to make it 9-1. Two batters later, Bradley Davis (Appalachian State) reached base on an error as Mason Dodd (Lander) came across the plate, making it 9-2.

The mountain proved too difficult to climb for Forest City, however, as the game ended moments later, giving the Blowfish a 9-2 victory over the Owls.

The Owls return to action tomorrow for a doubleheader on the road against High Point-Thomasville. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and you can catch all the action live on the Forest City Owls Radio Network.
