Owls Dominate Grizzlies, Win 10-2

FOREST CITY, N.C.

Forest City played their final regular season home game on Saturday night as they hosted the Gastonia Grizzlies (29-25, 12-14).

The Owls (35-18, 16-10) dominated from start to finish, cruising to a 10-2 win, taking a 10-5 season series win over the Grizzlies.

In the 1st, it was the Grizzlies who took the lead on an RBI double by Harris Yett (UNC Charlotte) to make it 1-0.

Forest City came right back in the bottom half of the frame, as Alex Reynolds (Lenoir-Rhyne) came in to score on an error by the Gastonia left fielder.

On the mound, Justin Whitley (Montevallo) got the start, but the Owls used seven different pitchers throughout the contest.

In the 2nd, Forest City’s offense exploded for five runs all scored with two outs.

The first runs were brought in on a two-RBI double by Collin Dupree (Montevallo) to put the Owls on top for good.

Moments later, Seth Hoagland (Iona) drove in another run on an RBI-single, The scoring in the frame was concluded with a two-run homerun by Reynolds (1) that put the Owls up 6-1.

In the 3rd, Daniel Kight (North Greenville) took over on the mound and maneuvered his way out of a bases loaded with nobody out jam.

The Forest City offense continued to stay hot as the team put up three more runs in the 4th. The inning was highlighted by a solo-homerun by Hoagland and a two-RBI double by Joel McDaniel (Appalachian State). McDaniel went 2-3 with two doubles, one run scored and a stolen base.

Gastonia scored their final run in the top of the 4th on an RBI single by Chaz Davey (Erskine).

Forest City closed out the scoring in the 6th as Nic Moore (Wayland Baptist) drove in Tyler Miller (Anderson), making it 10-2.

From there, the Owls put it in cruise control, coasting to a 10-2 victory over Gastonia.

Forest City has already clinched the number one overall seed in the Coastal Plain League, but has now moved within a half-game of the second half west division title as well.

The Owls, who are currently in second in the second half title race, have one game remaining in the regular season. Meanwhile, first-place High Point-Thomasville has two games left.

Forest City has a day off Sunday before returning to action on Monday as they travel to Asheboro to take on the Copperheads to close out the regular season.
