Mustangs Upend HiToms on Road

MARTINSVILLE, V.A.

The High Point-Thomasville HiToms have brought out the bats down the stretch of the CPL season, but they were on the wrong side of an outburst Saturday as they fell to the Martinsville Mustangs 11-3.

Trailing 2-0 in the top of the fifth with a runner at third base and two outs, HiToms left fielder Logan Taylor (Louisville) hit a RBI single to left to cut the deficit to one. Two batters later, the tying run scored courtesy of an error at shortstop. After Martinsville retook the lead 3-2 in the bottom half, the HiToms’ Glenn Batson (Clemson) smacked a solo shot to left – his fourth homer this week and eighth of the year – to tie the game at three in the top of the sixth.

It’s as close as the HiToms got though as Martinsville tacked on four runs in both the sixth and the eighth innings.

The HiToms will close their home schedule Sunday afternoon when the Petersburg Generals come to Finch Field on Guaranteed Win Night. First pitch is scheduled for 5 P.M.
