THOMASVILLE, N.C.

Starting pitcher Brody Koerner went the distance Monday night as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms bested the CPL West leading Columbia Blowfish 7-2.

The HiToms (19-25, 7-9) climbed ahead in the bottom of the second inning when Cody Brittain (USC Upstate) smacked a two-run single to left field with the bases loaded to put them in front 2-0. One batter later, Blowfish starting pitcher Denis Buckley (0-4) threw a wild pitch that scored the third run of the frame.

With a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth, High Point-Thomasville had runners on first and second with two outs when left-fielder Joey Havrilak (Akron) crushed a three-run homer to right field – his third in two days giving the HiToms their eventual 7-2 tally.

The story of the night, however, was the line from HiToms starting pitcher Brody Koerner (Clemson). He pitched all nine innings Monday allowing just two runs (one earned), five hits, and three walks with a season-high 12 strikeouts – striking out half of them in the final three frames.

The HiToms get the day off Tuesday before returning to Finch Field to face the Forest City Owls Wednesday on Shuler Meats’ Dollar Night and Bojangle’s night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
