ASHEBORO, N.C.

Glenn Batson continued his hot hitting notching three hits Monday and a RBI, but it wasn’t enough as the High Point-Thomasville HiToms lost their regular season finale to the Asheboro Copperheads 6-4.

However, with Florence’s win over Fayetteville, the HiToms clinch the #4 seed and head to the Pettitt Cup playoffs.

With the HiToms trailing 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Joey Havrilak (Akron) lead off the frame with a walk and then moved to second on a steal. Two batters later, Glenn Batson (Clemson) ripped a RBI double to left field to halve the deficit. Asheboro responded in the bottom half with three runs to push their lead out to 5-1.

In the fifth, High Point-Thomasville kept fighting. After James Fowlkes (USC Upstate) lead off with a walk, Ryan Hodge (Gardner-Webb) drove him in with an RBI triple before Logan Taylor (Louisville) followed him with a RBI single to bring the HiToms within two, 5-3, but they never got any closer.

With the HiToms’ playoff berth, they’ll face the CPL West Division Champion Florence RedWolves Wednesday at Finch Field. Be sure to check hitoms.com for more information.
