Grizzlies Close Road Trip With WIn

FOREST CITY, N.C.

Gastonia stayed in front of the Owls 10-8 Wednesday night at McNair Field.

The Grizzlies (14-10, 31-21) used a six-run third inning and 16 hits to close out a three-game road trip with a victory.

Brooks Kennedy (North Carolina) went 4-for-4 with four RBI to lead the hitting attack. Casey Scoggins (Tampa) was 1-for4 with two RBI.

Zach Sightler (Winthrop) earned the win on the mound (5-2) with 5.1 innings pitched in which he gave up five runs on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks.

Ethan Worthoetter (Presbyterian) picked up the save (4).

Gastonia returns home Thursday against High Point Thomasville at 7:17 p.m.

Winners of the CPL West Division first-half championship, Gastonia clinched a postseason berth on July 29. The Petitt Cup playoffs begin Aug. 5 featuring the top eight teams in the league in best-of-three, first-round series with the higher seeds holding home-field advantage.
