FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.

The Fayetteville SwampDogs (29-18) let out their offensive frustrations against the Morehead City Marlins (20-24) by a final score of 14-3.
In the second inning with the SwampDogs trailing 1-0, Jayson Newman (Cal State Northridge) came to the plate with a team-high 37 RBIs on the season. He added three more with a bases clearing double to put the SwampDogs ahead 5-1. Justin Hawkins (Clemson) added to his team-leading home run tally in the 2nd inning as well driving his 8th home run of the year over the centerfield wall to put Fayetteville ahead 7-1.
The SwampDogs offense would not be satisfied until hanging another touchdown on the scoreboard. Fayetteville plated a run in each of the next four innings as well. A sacrifice bunt from Jason Paredes (Hagerstown) would bring home a run in the third inning as Trent Franson (TCU) would score putting Fayetteville ahead 8-1.
Andrew Henrickson would score on an error in the 4th inning, while Austin Edgette and Henrickson would both score on a two-out double from Newman, giving the designated hitter 5 RBIs on the night and putting Fayetteville ahead 11-1.
A RBI single from Henrickson following a sacrifice fly from Paredes would only bolster the stats for Fayetteville’s offense as the SwampDogs would total 18 hits in the 14-run performance.
Joey Gonzalez (Stetson) would match his offensive support going 8 innings while striking out 6 to improve to (3-0).
Marlins’ starter Luke Sleeper (Stanford) would be tagged for 6 runs in 1 2/3 inning pitched falling to (0-2).
The SwampDogs return to the Swamp on Saturday, July 29 for Striking Out Cancer Night against the Peninsula Pilots benefitting the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation.
