Generals Topple Tobs

PETERSBURG, VA

The Petersburg Generals (7-13) were able to knock off the Wilson Tobs (12-9) 11-5 tonight after eight innings. The game was called in the Bottom of the eighth with 2 outs on the board and bases loaded when the rain, that had been holding off, finally came.

The game got out to an odd start as the Tobs suffered some bus troubles this afternoon which led to the game being pushed back to an 8:15pm start. Not feeling the effects of not having the normal warm up time, the Tobs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Generals came back in a big way scoring five runs in the bottom of the third. After an error and a wild pitch scored 2 runs for the Generals in the Bottom of the third, with bases loaded Calvin Scott stroked a double to centerfield to clear them. With three frames played it was all Generals 5-1.

Some solid hitting and pitching by the Tobs saw them rumbling back into the game in the sixth inning as they scored three runs to cut the lead 5-4.  The seventh inning brought the tying run in for the Tobs and it was 5-5 heading into the bottom half of the inning. Feeling the urgency of breaking the tie the Generals scored four runs to take the 9-5 lead. Petersburg would plate two more runs in the eighth inning before the game was called on account of the weather.
Forest Arnold got the Start on the mound for the generals where he pitched 6.0 innings with 4 ER.

He was Relieved by Teague McFadden (1-0) who would allow the tying run in the seventh but did not allow another run. Sam Luchansky would come in for McFadden to close the door on the Tobs hopes in the top half of the eighth.

Petersburg will be home tomorrow as they face the Peninsula Pilots in a double header starting at 6:05pm and gates will open at 5:00pm.
