The Generals (5-10) lost 9-5 to the visiting Wilson Tobs (9-7) on a beautiful Saturday night at the Petersburg Sports complex.
Petersburg took an early lead as Christopher Hicks crossed the plate after a throwing error allowed him to reach third. Generals starting pitcher Blake Turner (1-2) held the Tobs scoreless the first two innings but, allowed 6 runs in the third inning. Wilson then cruised to a 9-1 lead after 6 innings.
After trailing 9-1 the Generals put up two runs each in the 5th and 6th innings to cut the Tobs lead to 9-5 where the score remained. Generals relief pitcher Cody Boydstun had an effective relief outing, and did not allow the Tobs to grow their lead.
The Tobs Justin Bellinger had a multi-hit night, including a two RBI double. Generals catcher William Hancock had two hits and drove in one of the Generals five runs.
Petersburg takes to the road tomorrow to face off against the Holly Springs Salamanders (4-11) and will return home Monday night against the Wilmington Sharks (10-6). First pitch is slated for 7:05pm and gates open at 6:00.
