Gastonia Rallies To Down Mustangs

GASTONIA, N.C.

The Grizzlies rallied to beat Martinsville 5-3 Friday night at Sims Legion Park in front of 4,137 fans.

The attendance was the fourth 4,000-plus crowd of the season.

Gastonia (3-1, 20-12) trailed 3-1 before scoring four runs in the seventh to come from behind and take the victory from the Mustangs.

Jackson Mims (East Carolina) went 1-for-2 with two RBI and Casey Scoggins (Tampa) was 1-for-4 with two RBI.

Logan Cook (UNC Pembroke) pitched seven innings for his fourth win on the mound, allowing three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Ethan Wortkoetter (Presbyterian) picked up his second save with two scoreless innings of relief.

The Grizzlies travel to High Point-Thomasville Saturday.

Winners of the CPL West Division first-half championship, Gastonia clinched a postseason berth on July 29. The Petitt Cup playoffs begin Aug. 5 featuring the top eight teams in the league in best-of-three, first-round series.
