Galazin’s Big Day Pushes Steamers to Win Over Peninsula

EDENTON, N.C.

The Edenton Steamers (23-16, 6-5) got a big night out of Jamie Galazin at the plate to get an 8-6 win over the Peninsula Pilots (24-16, 8-4). Galazin was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a walk at the plate.

The Pilots jumped out the early lead after Logan Augustine singled to right field. Edenton responded in the third inning when Jamie Galazin picked up his first RBI on a single up the middle to score Paul Rufo to tie the game. Penisula answered back with an RBI single of their own by Matthew Schneider to give the Pilots the lead once again.

In the fifth, the Steamers came to life. After back-to-back walks to Rufo and Galazin, Billy Wilson brought home a run on a safety squeeze to tie the game when Rufo slid under the tag at the plate. The Steamers took the lead for the first time all night when Jason Agresti beat out an infield single to bring home Galazin to make it 3-2.

Edenton stretched their lead in the sixth when Jamie Galazin added his second RBI on a single up the middle to push the lead to 4-2. After a scoreless sixth, starter Nick Wegmann was pulled for Edenton. Wegmann went six innings giving up two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. The Pilots picked up three runs in the seventh after Wegmann’s exit. Sean Hughes came in and gave up a run on a wild pitch to make it 4-3 before being pulled with runners at second and third.

Andrew McDonald came in and gave up a two-RBI single up the middle to Logan Augustine to give Peninsula the 5-4 lead. The Clams came back in the eighth with their biggest hits of the contest.

After Dom Cuevas walked and stole his second base of the game, Jamie Galazin drove him in with an RBI double to tie the game at 5-5. The next batter, Billy Wilson, followed the hit with a triple to bring in Galazin and make it 6-5. Billy Wilson came in two score a few batters later on a wild pitch to add to the lead. Jason Agresti concluded the hit parade in the inning with an RBI single to right field to make it 8-5.

Carmen Giampetruzzi came in to pick up the save (7) in the ninth for Edenton for an 8-6 victory. He went one inning and gave up two hits with an unearned run.

Andrew McDonald (4-3) got the win for the Clams while Nick Spadafino (0-2) picked up the loss for Peninsula. The Teal and Black will be back in action tomorrow against the Morehead City Marlins for a doubleheader at Big Rock Stadium. The two sides will finish the game that was suspended due to lighting. Morehead City has a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth and then the teams will play a seven-inning affair in game two. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
