GASTONIA, N.C.

Forest City followed up their doubleheader sweep at High Point on Sunday with another doubleheader sweep on Monday. This time, the Owls (28-15, 9-7) traveled to Gastonia to take on the Grizzlies (24-21, 7-10) in a pair of seven inning games.

In the sweep, Forest City also clinched a season series win over Gastonia, now leading the series 10-3 with two games to play against one another this year.

Game 1:

Game one of the doubleheader was the resumption of a rained out game from last Tuesday. Forest City led 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th as the game resumed.

On the mound, Forest City looked to Connor Dailey (Lenoir-Rhyne) to replace starter Danny Poidomani (Stevens Institute) as the game resumed.

Dailey tossed four scoreless innings, allowing four hits while striking out one Gastonia hitter.

In the 5th, Dailey got some more breathing room as Alex Reynolds (Lenoir-Rhyne) hit a two-RBI single that brought in Connor Grant (North Greenville) and Carson Jones (Lander) to score.

The Owls carried that 5-0 lead for the remainder of the game, as Dailey coasted on the mound, propelling Forest City to a 5-0 lead in game one of the doubleheader.

Game 2:

30 minutes following the conclusion of game one, game two began at Sims Legion Park.

Forest City ace Alec Bivins (Mars Hill) climbed the mound for the Owls in game two. Bivins threw six innings on the hill, allowing one run on seven hits while fanning four batters.

For the Grizzlies, Blake Waldren (Campbell) started on the mound. Waldren lasted four and one-third innings, allowing six runs along the way.

The Owls struck first in the 2nd, as Carson Jones (Lander) smacked a two-run homerun (4) to right-center, putting Forest City on top 2-0.

In the bottom half of the inning, Gastonia got one run back, as Michael Wilson (Stony Brook) drove in a run, making it 2-1.

In the 5th, the Owls offense knocked Waldren out of the game as Forest City dropped six runs to blow the game open.

First, Seth Hoagland (Iona) doubled down the left field line to score two runs. Two batters later, an RBI single by Chris Chatfield (South Florida) made it 5-1 Forest City.

Next, AJ Wright (UMBC) launched his third homerun in his last five starts. His three-run blast (4) made it 8-1 Owls.

“I think it’s just been me getting better pitches to hit,” Wright said. “I haven’t really changed anything mechanically, I’ve just been staying in the right mindset and looking for better pitches to hit.”

From there, Bivins relaxed on the mound and mowed down the Gastonia offense before being replaced for the final frame.

In the 7th, Brandon Dusenberry (East Central) took over on the hill, slamming the door on Gastonia and giving Forest City their fourth win in the last two days.

The Owls return to action tomorrow to take on the Gastonia Grizzlies once again. This time, they’ll be playing at McNair Field in Forest City. First pitch time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and you can catch all the action live on the Forest City Owls Radio Network or on WCAB 590AM in Forest City and the surrounding area.
