Edwards Homers, Grizzlies Tie Florence In Standings

GASTONIA, N.C.

Gastonia moved into a first-place tie with Florence by virtue of an 11-4 victory over Forest City at Sims Legion Park and the RedWolves loss to Asheboro earlier Friday night.

The Grizzlies (15-11) and Florence meet Monday in Gastonia with a first-half division crown and automatic playoff berth on the line.

Gastonia pounded Owls’ pitching with 16 hits and scored runs in every inning except two to beat Forest City for the fifth time in 2015.

Blake Edwards (Columbus State) 3-for-6 including a homer to lead the Grizzlies at the plate. Ryan Whitt (King) went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

Logan Cook improved to 3-0 on the mound by pitching 7.2 innings in which he allowed four runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and three walks.

The Grizzlies travel to Forest City Saturday night.
