Clams Split in Doubleheader vs. Wilmington

Edenton, NC- The Edenton Steamers (28-24, 11-13) split their final two games with the Wilmington Sharks (30-22, 17-7) at Historic Hicks Field.

Game 1:

The Steamers jumped out to the early lead and never looked back. Edenton got back-to-back home runs in the bottom half of the first from Billy Wilson and Chris Ayers to make it 3-0. Wilmington answered with a homer of their own when Brian Parreira hit a solo shot to center to cut into the lead. The Sharks cut it to a one run game when Dayton Dugas singled up the middle to bring home a run. Edenton answered back in the bottom of the fourth with the second home run of the night from Chris Ayers to make it 4-2.

The Sharks responded by scoring on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 4-3, but that was the closest they got. Carmen Giampetruzzi came in to get the save (8) in the ninth for Edenton to give the Steamers the win.

Kelvan Pilot (4-2) got the win for Edenton and Colby Lee (4-4) picked up the loss for the Sharks. Pilot went six innings while giving up three runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2:

The game was very quiet until the fourth inning. Wilmington jumped out to the lead after a two-run home run by Trevor McCutchin to make it 2-0. The Sharks added to their lead in the fifth when Luke Morgan smacked a two-RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. However, Edenton had their answer in the bottom half of the inning.

The Clams brought home three runs on an RBI single by Anthony Maselli with two errors. Billy Wilson followed Maselli with a two-run homer to give the Steamers their first lead to make it 5-4.

After turning to the bullpen, Edenton called upon Chris Ayers to come in and pitch. Cam Locklear hit a two-run shot for Wilmington to give the lead back to the Sharks, 6-5. Anthony Maselli followed Ayers with a scoreless seventh while striking out the side. The Clams went 1-2-3 in the final frame to pick up the loss in the game after Ryan Hedrick came in to get the save (2). Chis Ayers (0-1) got the loss for Edenton while Colt Springs (2-0) received the win for Wilmington.

The Teal and Black Will be back in action tomorrow night for the final home game of the season. The Steamers will take on the Wilson Tobs beginning at 7:00 p.m.
