5 In A Row For Bananas

Updated July 30 2016

On the final Friday home game of the year, the Bananas (26-19) down the Blowfish 8-1.

Starter for the Bananas Drew Moody (4-3) went the distance, allowing just one run, scattering eight hits and permitting a single walk.

Entering the game Adam Gauthier was hitless in his previous 15 at bats before barreling a double down the left field line to lead of the third inning. The next batter, Nick Choruby then deposited a soft line drive into left field, plating the games first run.

Gauthier went on to score on two other occasions, reaching base every time he stepped to the dish.

A key moment in the top of the fifth inning, after Lexington County tied the game with nobody out curtesy of Clint Carrs RBI double, the Blowfish had runners at second and third with nobody out. Moody was then able to retire the next three batters in order, capped by a diving stop and flip to first base by Garret Nelson, preserving the tie.

Right after the defensive gem in the top of the fifth, Nelson stepped to the plate in bottom half of the frame and delivered a two run triple into the left field corner, making it 4-1 Savannah.

This proved to be more than enough run support for Moody, who faced just four over the minimum after yielding his lone run in the fifth inning.

The Bananas remain in first place in the CPL West Division with just seven games remaining before the Pettit Cup Playoffs start on August 10th. The Bananas head to Florence tomorrow, before returning home on Thursday August 4th. Very limited tickets remain for final home games.
